Her niche character is the seemingly ordinary woman whose life is suddenly upheaved by tragedy or adversity, which in time changes her. Examples of her niche character are Laura Linney in Ozark and Holly Hunter in The Big Sick.

The 2023 Berlin Filmhaus Festival named Julie Dell Phillips a finalist for Best Supporting Actress in Retrograde Los Angeles (winner, Best TV Series).
